Buster Levi Gallery is pleased to present INNER LANDSCAPES, paintings and mannequins by Judith Wilde at 121 Main Street in Cold Spring, NY. The exhibition will run from June 7th through June 30th , 2024. The opening for the exhibition will be on Friday, June 7th , from 6 - 8 PM.
Judith Wilde says,” I do not paint what I see, but how what I see makes me feel.” She paints in oil and gold leaf from a quiet spiritual place in herself. Her work is influenced by Native American culture, supported by the underlying structure and geometry of historic Islamic and Persian rug design.
These disparate entities are harmonized by using flat geometric forms and bands of color that infer vertical and horizontal movement that are contrasted against the texture of gold leaf, which she intentionally cracks to create a more active and reflective surface that merges the old with the new. At this juncture the viewer may be challenged to enter a state of inquiry concerning this dynamic.
The aim of her paintings represents a reconciliation of man’s two natures, the ego and the pull of the spiritual forces that she touches on when she paints. The symbology, geometry, and simplification of forms furthers a pursuit to know her inner self.
Judith’s other passion is tattooing mannequins using her lifetime obsession with writing poetry as a formalistic expression. She began writing poetry at the age of 10 when her mother died. It was her way of explaining the chaos of the world to herself.
As a woman involved in the art of image making, she combines the written word as poetry, fabric paint and an assortment of collage materials. To this complex mixture of elements, she expresses her personal vision in an effort to understand the intricate process of marrying these divergent entities into a cohesive whole.Judith Wilde uses mannequins to bring this intimate expression into the three dimensional world as an expression towards harmony.
Buster Levi Gallery is open Saturday and Sunday from 12 – 6PM.
